7th grade This week will begin our unit on identity, individuality, and social acceptance. We will begin reading the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Students will continue to practice the skill of close reading and examining the text for theme, inferences, characterization, plot, internal conflicts, point of view and irony. While reading this novel we will be targeting Common Core Standards such as citing textual evidence, engaging in discussions and analyzing the meaning and impact of word choice. We will also examine literary elements such as atmosphere, foreshadowing, humor, symbol, irony, analyzing characters and suspense. Monday - Write about what you learned from the photographs about taking a stand. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of learning about taking a stand by only looking at photographs. 307 - Notebooks due 3/1 |
