Greetings! 

Below you will find a link for summer homework for all incoming 7th and 8th graders.  This summer I would like for everyone to improve our knowledge of Literacy Content Vocabulary.  This will prepare you for the 2017/2018 school year.  Use the link provided for ideas on how to create this vocabulary list.

8th grade 

NWEA testing begins this week.  Please be sure to get a good nights rest and a healthy breakfast each morning so that you can do your best on the test.  

7th grade
We will continue reading our novel, The Outsiders and analyzing the text through text dependent questions and literary terms.  We will have a Vocabulary test - part 1, this week.  Study! Study! Study!

This week in ela 4.24-4.28

7th grade
This week we will be starting our new novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.  The students will have an opportunity to examine the novel from many different views.  We will conflict, characterization, point of view, theme, foreshadowing, and vocabulary.  Students should be reading the novel each night and marking book logs, being careful not to read ahead of assigned reading.

Homework board
Monday - complete S.E. Hinton bio questions (3)
Tuesday - read chapter 1
Wednesday - Describe 5 characters and predict the role each might play; use textual support; read up to pg. 26 
Thursday - Complete character analysis

Note:  All 7th grade students should have completed and turned in their project for The Giver!

8th Grade
This week we will be finishing To Kill a Mockingbird.  The students have done a great job at keeping up with the text and analyzing the details.  Once we finish the book, we will watch the film, and then we will begin our argumentative essay by the end of next week.

Monday - read chapters 25-26
Tuesday - read chapter 27
Wednesday - finish the book


 

This week in ela 4.3-4.6

7th grade
We will finish the text The Giver this week.  All students should have the book completely read by Wednesday of this week.  We will continue to analyze the text using evidence to support as well as identify themes found in the text.  Students will be given an end of the unit project  which will be due the Friday after Spring Break, April 21st.

Tuesday - Read ch. 22-23
Wednesday and Friday - Project

8th grade
We will continue to read the book To Kill a Mockingbird.  All students should be reading the assigned chapter each night and prepare for our daily notes and reading checks.  We will continue to analyze the text using evidence to support as well as determining who continues to take a stand.

7th grade

This week we will continue reading our novel, The Giver.  We will be focusing on theme and foreshadowing along with discussing important events in the book.  Students will continue to support all ideas with evidence/direct quotes from the book.

Monday - Read ch. 14 and answer chapter question
Tuesday - Read ch. 15-16 
Wednesday - Read ch.17 and answer 1 question
Thursday - Read ch. 18-19 and answer 1 question
Friday - Read ch. 20 and complete foreshadowing assignment

8th Grade 

This week we will continue reading our novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.  We will be focusing on symbolism, interpreting quotes from the text, along with discussing important events in the book.  Students will continue to support all ideas with evidence/direct quotes from the novel.

Tuesday - Read ch. 11 - (notebooks due for 304) 
Wednesday - Read ch.12, complete vocabulary using 3-column chart and respond to 1 question; 304 only - complete 1 question about Maycomb

8th grade

We have started our new unit on To Kill a Mockingbird.  Students are expected to do the majority of the reading on their own, at home every night.  We will be discussing the two themes "taking a stand" and "treating others the way you want to be treated."  We will do this through text-dependent questions, objective summaries, character analysis, symbolism, foreshadowing/flashback, close reading, plot, and text to movie comparison/contrast. 

Homework board

Monday  - ch. 4 vocabulary and 1 daily notes questions
Tuesday - Read ch. 5 and complete vocab and complete the 3 in-class questions
Wednesday - Read ch. 6-7, finish in-class writing

7th grade

We have started our new unit on The Giver.  Students are expected to do the majority of the reading on their own, at home every night.  We will be discussing the following two themes, "Respecting and accepting individuality"  and "Not opting for conformity."  We will do this through the following skills practice:  objective summaries, character analysis, whole/small group discussion, text-dependent questions, close reading, plot, comparing/contrasting and locating relevant textual evidence.

Monday - Read ch. 7 and 8
Tuesday - Read ch.9 and respond to discussion question
Wednesday - Read ch. 10-11 and complete in class compare and contrast writing assignment.
