This week we will continue to read from our whole class novel, Touching Spirit Bear. Students should continue working on gather relevant textual evidence that will support their prompt for their literary essay. The essay's are due Friday October 31 if students wish to hand it to me (typed 12pt. font, double spaced, Times New Roman), or Saturday, November 1, if they choose to share it with me on google drive.
Do not email essays! This week we will use our whole class novel to work on identifying the symbolism used and how it impacts the many themes in the book. We will have a pop quiz on part one of the book on Monday and continue working with ThinkCERCA on Friday.

This week we will continue to read from our whole class novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor. Our focus will include generating Higher Order Thinking Questions (HOT), from the analyzing and evaluating levels of Blooms Taxonomy, to prepare for whole class and small group discussions. We will also engage in silent discussion to analyze portions of the text. Weekly homework and reading assignments (in-class and at home) pg. 116-199 Tuesday - generate discussion questions (due Wed.) Wednesday and Thursday - comprehension questions (due Friday) Friday - ThinkCERCA This week we will continue to read from our whole class novel, Touching Spirit Bear. We will be working on describing the main character's struggle for survival, as well as determining the author's usage of images and symbols throughout the struggle and what each one represents. Additionally, we will determine how the main character begins to change and how his experiences impact this change. Friday - ThinkCERCA - practice argumentative writing online or evaluate/revise/publish argumentative essay on The Veldt Homework Tuesday - Comprehension questions for chapters 8-12 (Due Friday 10.24) This week we will continue to read from our whole class novel, Touching Spirit Bear. We will be working on engaging in collaborative yet silent discussions as a way to evaluate the meaning of phrases and portions of the text. We will also work on identifying flashbacks and its relation to our main characters current situation. Additionally, we will discuss the main characters inner thoughts versus his actions to determine his personality and character.
Friday - ThinkCERCA - practice argumentative writing online or evaluate/revise/publish argumentative essay on The Veldt Homework for the week Wednesday and Thursday - chapter 5 and 6 comprehension questions Weekend - Read up to chapter 12 in Touching Spirit Bear. Be prepared for a test next week! This week we will continue to read from our whole class novel, Tangerine, in class as well as at home. We will be working on developing claims, analyzing portions of the text to determine why characters are making the certain decisions, identifying character traits, and using evidence to support. We will also synthesize information from the text to develop a newscast script, as a group, and present our final newscast.
