This week we will begin a new Non-fiction unit on The Civil Rights Movement. The title of this unit is, A Pivotal Moment the in Civil Rights Movement, with our focus being on the Emmett Till Case. Through the examination of documentaries, non-fiction text, images, and other primary sources we will focus on deepening our understanding of new key words, cite several pieces of textual evidence, determine central ideas and develop an argumentative essay. This week's homework - Read every night for 30 min. and mark logs!!! Monday - Define the term Pivotal Tuesday - Complete Vocabulary chart Wednesday - Complete Documentary questions 8th Grade
This week we will begin a new Non-fiction unit on The Holocaust. The title of this unit is, Decision Making in Times of Injustices. Through the examination of documentaries, non-fiction text, images, and other primary sources we will focus on deepening our understanding of new key words, cite several pieces of textual evidence, determine central ideas and develop an argumentative essay. This week's Homework - Read every night and mark logs Monday - Complete vocabulary Tuesday and Wednesday - Complete questions on google classroom This week we will continue working on our end of the unit essay assessments. Instead of the final copy due Tuesday, I have changed it to the rough draft due Tuesday, 11/15. This will give students an opportunity to conduct peer editing and I can look over essays as well.
The final copy will be due Friday, 11/18, along with the rubric. Homework board Mon - book logs due, body paragraphs due - finish conclusion Tues - Thurs. - work on final draft Friday - Essay due This week we will be wrapping up our units on Identity (7th) and Restorative Practices and Healing (8th). All students should be prepared for their end of the novel test. We will also begin our end of the unit writing assessment.
Dates and Homework board Notebooks for 310 due Tuesday, Nov. 8 Monday - Novel test Tuesday - Introduction and claim due Wednesday - No school - Report Card Pick-up Thursday - Body due Friday - no school - Veteran's Day Essay due - Tuesday, Nov. 15 This is our last week with our class novels. Students should finish the books and be prepared for our end of the unit assessment. We will study theme and begin pre-writing and drafting our essays. Student will be given rubrics and expectations for the writing assignment.
