Happy Black History Month!
Ray's School Vision - Fostering the LOVE of learning!
Hello February! This week we will continue to study the work of Miss Amanda Gorman. We will examine her poetry by observing the message, meaning, tone, and impact of her two poems, "The Hill We Climb" and " The Miracle Morning." The students will also write a response to one of the poems through their own poetry writing as well as draw connections between moments in history and their own lives. We will start our recognition of Black History Month by viewing Black History in Two Minutes and writing reflections (google forms). Students will do this twice per week throughout the month.
Upcoming novels for February: 7th grade will be reading Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Patillio Beals and 8th grade will be reading A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. Feel free to purchase these books in order to be ready for our upcoming unit on The Civil Rights Movement. We will have copies available at the school for pick-up as well. More info on this to come this week. I am hoping all students can have these novels by the first week of February.
Standards for the week:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.8.3

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1.A
